Here is the link for the article about the latest conflict between North and South Korea.
Read the article in its entirety. Comment on the following questions below.
http://www.nytimes.com/info/north-korea/
1. Do you believe that North Korea attacked South Korea's ship The Cheonan? Does South Korea have enough evidence? (You may need to take a look at a few articles to help you answer this)
2. Now that North Koreans are starting to get a slight "taste" of technology, do you think they will hold any type of revolt/rebellion against the Communist regime, especially after understanding that their nation is quite backwards compared to other nations?

Joel- do you like the RED writing?
ReplyDeleteYes its very nice. Ha ha ha. Anyway. I do believe that North Korea attacked/sunk the Cheonan. I remember seeing/hearing some where that satellites actually captured a picture of the ship firing. Also later on in the article, it says: "The investigation included experts from the United States, Britain, Sweden and Australia as well as South Korea. The evidence included part of a torpedo propeller with what investigators believed was a North Korean serial number." Therefore the South Koreans do have evidence that the ship was attacked by North Korea. That alone should be enough to convict the North Koreans.
ReplyDeleteI think that they would not revolt. Even though they are eager to actually have technology, the TOTALITARIaN government would not let them. And if they did, the government would be very quick to put it down, find the leaders of the rebellion, and kill/imprison them. The rebellion would not have any affect. North Korea still would not allow the people to have any technology. ☭★
1. I believe that North Korea did in fact sink the Cheonan ship. South Korea and other investigators have found a piece of the torpedo that hit the ship off the coast, according to articles in BBC news and the New York Times. This torpedo was mad with North Korean designs, says the reports. I strongly feel that North Korea is to blame for this attack, regardless of what they claim.
ReplyDelete2. I feel that a revolt will not be in the immediate future. People in North Korea are so "brain-washed" by the Communist Regime that, to disobey them and use technology, would never happen. The leaders are so controlling that the technology that is supposedly there will be found and either destroyed or taken out of the country. Any revolters will quickly be imprisoned or killed as fast as the technology will be seized. North Koreans today are too scared to revolt against the Great Leader!
1.) The question of whether North Korea actually did attack a South Korean vessel is ineffably undeniable. Seeing how much evidence the South Koreans have presented to the UN and how little trust can we lend to North Korea for its history of dishonesty, there's no question in my mind that North Korea attacked their southern neighbors with intent and yet forgot to cover themselves up. I believe they are trying to provoke the South Koreans to retalliate, causing the Korean War to officially awaken from its coma and scare Asia once again. North Korea never acomplished its goal in fully reuniting Korea, nor has it chosen to give up on it as displayed on the 38th Parallel. It shows that their is still grudges being held and immaturity within the two countries trying to provoke more violence in their country. North Korea wants another shot, and they are willing to go in all-out war to get what they want; Communist Korea.
ReplyDelete2.) Had I not seen that video of North Korea with the eye surgeon from Nepal, I probably would have said, "Absolutely! Of course they would revolt!" Unfortunately, the facts sway that answer 180 degrees and make me decline all optimism. They won't revolt. If they are grateful for everything that they have, they aren't going to care if they're in the Stone Age compared to the rest of the world. It's sickening and depressing to see a man [doctor from Nepal] who worked so hard for people, cure 99% of these people from blindness that they may see their own children and grandchildren again, and become completely unknown and unexistent to these people he just had treated. He stands right there, unwrapping bandages of eyes with newly given sight, and he's the last person on their minds compared to Kim Jung Il. Heck, he isn't even in their minds! They worship this dictator as God, take his words like the Way to Eternal Life, and speak/depict him as if he was the Master, Creator, and Pantocrator of all things. If they see that he's still in power, and he continues isolationism in his country, there will never be a revolt for thousands of years to come; unless someone steps up.
1) I do believe that North Korea attacked South Korea ship the Cheonan that killed forty six sailors. I think that since they set it off on a disputed north and south border then there plan all along was to stir up conflict or intimidate the south. South Korea definitely has enough evidence to prove that it was the north. The north has already admitted to successfully conducting nuclear test although they have been warned that it could possibly cause conflict and thats exactly what it has done. Also because the North Korean leader is more concerned about himself he may have ordered the ships to be sunk to help secure the succession of his youngest son.
ReplyDelete2)The fact that North Korea has gotten a slight idea of what technology is like, I think the way they feel about their government might change but in no way do i think they will revolt or form a rebellion. I feel that North Korea has instilled so much fear in their people that they would never even think to do anything that could possibly cause them their lives. I'm sure that the citizens are starting to realize that their country is different but I don't think they believe its backwards. And who knows, some people may not have been interested in modern technology so we can't say they will revolt because the people have their own opinions about how North Korea is ran.
1)I absolutely believe that North Korea attacked the South Korean ship Cheonan. With the past history of the dihonesty and hate from North Korea and the given evidence there is no doubt that North korea did the attack. Regardless of what they say they can not deny the evidence given like the fact that the torpedo had North Korean serial numbers that alone can prove that North Korea is to blame.
ReplyDelete2) Though the people of North Korea have had a "taste" of technology there is no way they are going to start a rebellion they are so brain washed and filled with fear to even dream of a revlot. Even if they did start to revolt the "Great Leader" would kill/imprison anybody that even tries to get in his way or his sons way as well. At this point new technology can not change old fears in North Korea.
1) It seems very clear that North Korea attacked the South Korean ship Cheonan. Its undeniable for North Korea considering there is evidence to belive they were responsible for this attack. The torpedo had North Korean serial numbers on it, easily proving they are to blame. Also, North Korea has had a long history with conflict towards South Korea and are known for their dishonesty.
ReplyDelete2)Now that North Korean's are getting a 'taste' of technology I don't believe they would ever revolt. The fear instilled in them makes it very hard for them to even thinking about rebelling. Also, they are brainwashed and many North Koreans are most likely stuck in their ways, allowing the communist regime. Any who revolt would be imprisoned or killed and the North Koreans know that. Therefore, I don't belive they will revolt.
1) The North Koreans definitely attacked the South Korean ship. The South Koreans ere able to provide forensic evidence that the North Koreans used a torpedo to sink the ship. There is a lot of tension between the two countries providing another example for possible reasons for the attack. There is much evidence providing proof that the North Koreans attacked the Cheonan. To me it is quite obvious that the
ReplyDelete2)No i don't think that there will be a rebellion. Although they are getting a "taste" of technology the government has to much control over their people not allowing them to rebel. The government can use the technology as another form of propaganda. I think the government can control their people into believing that their country is superior. The government in North Korea can control the citizens into believing anything thing they want preventing the revolt.
heyy everyone.
ReplyDelete1) I do believe that North Korea attacked the South Korean ship Cheonan. It seems very clear that North Korea did not cover their tracks very well on this one. While reading an article from BBC News, I found pictures that had shown the missile that hit the South Korean ship. The digits that marked the missile were of North Korean origin, proving it was made in North Korea. North Korea has been dishonest before when testing nuclear weapons and I don't think this time is any different.
2) I do not think there will be a revolt. Yes, they have new technology but the government will control that too. A perfect example was the movie we watched about the doctor fixing the cataracts patients. They would not allow the travelers to interview any of the patients. They have sealed themselves away from the world and they are not going to throw that away anytime soon. There is too much fear instilled in the citizens for a revolt to occur.
hope everyone had a good weekend! :)

1. I believe there is some evidence supporting the claim that North Korea attacked South Korea's ship, The Cheonan. The two nations have been suspicious of eachother ever since the end of the Korean War. It's not surprising that South Korea automatically jumped to the conclusion that North Korea is responsible for the torpedo attck on The Cheonan. Though the South Koreans are backed by experts from Britain, Sweden, the United States, and Australia, the only real piece of evidence is part of a torpedo propeller that "investigators believed was a North Korean serial number." I believe South Korea needs more evidence to support their claim before blamming North Korea and possibly starting another Korean War, or even a third world war. However, since The Cheonan was attacked at a disputed sea border between the feuding countries, any more evidence found will most likely lead to the North Koreans.
ReplyDelete2. Throughout what we've learned this year, we've seen revolutions by peasants against oppressive governments. There was the French and Russian Revolutions, the Meiji Restoration in Japan, and the Tiananmen Square Massacre in China. Eventually, citizens of a power abusing government finally have to say enough. North Koreans are now being exposed to cell phones and DVD players, so they may begin to understand how backwards their government and their "Dear Leader" really are annd how they are being cut off from the world. Do I think North Koreans will revolt? I think if not now, then it will be sometime in the near future. There are always those who begin the spark for freedom and it doesn't take long for others to join in the cause. Every human deserves to have basic rights and freedoms, no matter where they live or under what government.
1.ahhh North Korea makes me laugh... They are kinda like a 5 year old kid with a crayon in his hand with writing all over the wall. "I didn't do it".... "The ship sunk it self". What more evidence does SK need? Uhh the ship blew up and the id # on the torpedo is North Korean. Unless SK stole a torpedo and shot them self with it... psyche.
ReplyDelete2. I think a revolt CAN'T happen. Lil' Il's got to much of an iron grip on the country. and the only real technology they have is nuclear, and they aren't even good at it. The cellphones and dvds are jokes. I'm sure all the dvds are about how awesome NK is and I remember the recent riots in Iran and they rioters couldn't use their phones because the government pushed a high frequency signal into the air block the cellphone signal. and the people in country are backwards to revolt. (much like Joel) hahaha
1. I do believe that North Korea attacked the South Korean ship, The Cheonan. The tension between the two countries and the evidence of the North Korean serial numbers found on a piece of the torpedo provides evidence of the truth. North Korea cannot lie to the world anymore, everyone knows they are to blame for the attack.
ReplyDelete2. North Koreans do see how backwards and behind they are compared to other countries after using the technology but the officals most likely took away the cell phones and DVDs as fast as the citizens recieved them. In years to come, a rebellion could happen. Right now, the North Koreans are too afraid of the Dear Leader and what he is capable of doing to them rather than gaining freedom and countrywide progression.
1. North Korea definitely sunk that South Korean ship. No one else would do it, first of all. Secondly, many countries investigated it, and all of their investigations led to North Korea as responsible for sinking the Cheonan. They are obviously going to deny it, but they definitely did it.
ReplyDelete2. In the article, it stated that North Koreans are experiencing "new" technology such as cell phones and TV. These people are really getting to se how backwards their country is, and how much better we have it on the outside. I do think that there is eventually going to be some kind of rebellion, because these people are now realizing how terribly they are being treated.
1. Of course i believe that North Korea sunk the South Korean ship. They hate each other as countries, and this is just a way for North Korea to make South Korea mad. In the article it says that other countries who investigated the sinking are pointing the fingers at North Korea also. I don't think North Korea is fooling anyone by saying that they did not do it.
ReplyDelete2. I believe that the people of North Korea would love to revolt, even though they all say how much they love their great leader. Some of them realize how much better life is in the "real world." I do not think it could ever happen though. Kim Jong Il has his country in the palm of his hand. He is far too powerful for any type of revolt to happen in the country.
1. Ever since the division of Korea, there has been a constant tension between the two countries. North Korea undoubtedly attacked the South Korean ship the Cheonan. Along with the support of Britain, Sweden, United States, and Australia, the South Koreans have more than enough evidence to prove that the North Koreans are responsible for the attack. The government provided forensic evidence that the torpedo that struck the Cheonan had a North Korean serial number on it. To me, that evidence alone proves that the North Koreans unquestionibly shot down the South Koreans ship.
ReplyDelete2. Although the North Koreans have a better understanding of how backwards in the world they really are, a revolt/rebellion will not happen. Even if there was, it would quickly be put down since the TOTALITARIAN government has such strong control over its people. The slight bit of technology they have will not alone be able to successfully lead a rebellion. The North Korean people will need help from other countries to permanetly put down the TOTALITARIAN regime.
Don't worry Joel, I got you.
1. I do believe that the ship ,The Cheonan, was sunk by the north Koreans. The torpedo that sunk the ship was of North Korean design and carried codes believed to be north Korea's. Not only did South Korea find evidence, but other countries as well, such as the US.
ReplyDelete2. Yes, the North Koreans will eventually attempt a revolution, but it will be a short lived one. The evil communist government has complete control over the military and will put down any revolution that occurs. What needs to happen is for an outside country or countries to help the revolutionaries. A revolution would almost certainly start a civil war, because most of the citizens are brainwashed into thinking that their current government is good.
by the way, communism is EVIILLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL
ReplyDelete1. i personnaly do think the North attacked the South because in the beginning of the article,it stated how the tension was begininng to decrease but as time went by it flared up once again. but i dont think they have enough evidence on what actually hit the boat and where it came from, all they said was they were convinced not sure.
ReplyDelete2.yes i do think they are going to start adopting rebellious behavior because now that their eyes are open about their weird way of ruling, theyre going to try to make things right and "normal"
